The rain stopped for real the day I left Gibraltar, but I was still sick. Fortunately I had a relatively long stay in Cádiz (5 days) for some beach therapy.
Cádiz ended up being one of my favorite stops. It’s an indescribably old city, the longest continuously inhabited city in Europe. It’s heyday was arguably the 18th century when it became the home port for Spain’s treasure fleet.
These days, it’s a much quieter place. There’s a steady stream of tourists owing to its cruise port, but not a lot of industry, per se. As a traveler, it was a nice place to just “be”.
