In contrast with my earlier travels through Andalucía, this phase of my trip was marked with larger and larger distances. After Lisbon and my Sintra/Cabo da Roca side trip, I wanted to visit Galicia, starting with Santiago de Compostela a good 335 mi/540km due north from Lisbon.
Stopping in Porto happened more out of necessity than desire. My goal was Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, Spain, but that required traversing through most of the length Portugal. The way connections lined up pretty much required an overnight stop.
My planned stay was brief and became all the more limited when my attempt to buy a bus ticket to Santiago resulted in a having my credit card charged but no ticket generated… So I spent my morning at the bus depot getting it sorted. Afterwards I had a quick wander around before my 5 hour bus ride back to Spain.
