Nerja

Sun, Sand, and Sea in Nerja

Nerja was my first stop after Granada. I decided to ease into things with a short stay at the beach and my first ever stay at a hostel. I booked a private room at EasyNerja Hostel, and ended up with a six bed dorm room to myself. Naturally, I tried all the beds to find the most comfortable one!

I only had one full day in Nerja, so I used it to see Nerja’s only real non-beach attraction: the Caves of Nerja. I took a ride on the “Cuevatren” to the cave site a few kilometers out of town. The caves were (re)discovered in the 1959 and have really amazing geological formations. There were a few that made me think of Gaudi.

I decided to walk back from the caves and do a little geocaching on the way. I crossed the bridge into Maro for a quick look around and a giant bottle of water.

My first stop was an old bridge with a partial view to the old aqueduct.

My second stop was at an abandoned sugar factory.

Amazingly, I found all of the caches I went looking for! (This is not normal for me.)

I finished the walk into Nerja and had a lovely late lunch along Burriana Beach.

Next stop: Córdoba!
