{"id":11,"date":"2016-02-29T21:02:49","date_gmt":"2016-03-01T05:02:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pxl8.es\/?p=11"},"modified":"2017-05-04T12:57:19","modified_gmt":"2017-05-04T19:57:19","slug":"pittock-mansion-portland-or","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pxl8.es\/index.php\/2016\/02\/29\/pittock-mansion-portland-or\/","title":{"rendered":"Pilot Episode: Pittock Mansion (Portland, OR)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was in Portland this weekend and decided to take a trip to the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/pittockmansion.org\">Pittock Mansion<\/a>\u00a0to take in some local history.<\/p>\n<p>Henry Pittock, longtime publisher\u00a0of the Oregonian and an important figure in Portland&#8217;s early years, built this mansion in 1909 for his family on a hill overlooking the city. These days it&#8217;s part of the Portland Bureau of Parks and Recreation and is open to the public for tours.<\/p>\n<p>The house was built with electric lighting and modern plumbing. I was struck\u00a0two things on my visit. The first was the exquisite detail in <em>everything<\/em> &#8211; the exterior, the ceilings, the chandelier, the tiffany glaze, etc. The second was how surprisingly modern the house was, despite being 100 years old.
